Since graduating in 2013 Anita spent her initial years working in a large Tertiary Trauma Hospital in a variety of clinical areas including brain injury, neurology and stroke, aged care, amputee, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, head and neck surgeries and a specialist aged care and rehab team in the community.
She moved abroad for 2 years to travel and work as a physiotherapist across the UK in the NHS and one of the largest private Neurological Rehabilitation Hospitals in London to devote her time to her areas of passion: Neurology, Aged Care and Rehabilitation.
Anita has experience working across inpatient, outpatient and community settings. Her experience has allowed her to understand the transitions a client experiences throughout their rehab journey and also develop skills in identifying a client’s rehab needs at each stage. She has also been involved in the education of students and fellow colleagues in adult physical rehab.
Anita has a strong interest in Parkinson’s disease, Stroke, and falls prevention in the Elderly.
What do you love most about being a physiotherapist?
Meeting people on all walks of life and hearing their stories. Being part of that journey to help clients recover and achieve their life goals whether it be being able to walk again, hug their children, getting to the coffee shop or play bowls again. I love that there is always something we can do to help people participate more fully in their life regardless of their degree of disability.
What are some of the most memorable moments as a physiotherapist?
There are so many: seeing a client achieving his and his family’s goals of being able to hug his children again after being completely paralysed; running drills in the park with a client who was told that he would never walk again; and having a centenarian in a falls prevention exercise class I was running and celebrating her birthday with the group.
What do you enjoy doing for self care or to relax?
I love travelling and all it’s experiences: the great outdoors, seeing wildlife roaming in their home, food, history and culture. I also enjoy yoga, paddleboarding, hiking, travel and food shows. I love being a mom and being silly and playful with my little girl.
